We Say: West Ham United 1-2 Arsenal

West Ham supporters have been handed precious little to be excited about, especially after their side’s recent poor run of form.

Their impressive early season form has slowly started fading into despair, and we envisage another defeat for the Hammers against an Arsenal side keen to challenge across all fronts this season.

football.london’s writers offer their assistance to Mikel Arteta over the Arsenal starting line-up for the Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against West Ham United

Judging by how the season has unfolded so far, it’s anyone’s guess as to what Mikel Arteta has in store with regard to the Arsenal team selection for Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup tie against West Ham United.

Historically, the Gunners have used the competition to rotate and hand opportunities to promising youngsters. So could we see Aaron Ramsdale, in particular, return to the starting line-up in addition to debuts for youngsters such as Amario Cozier-Duberry and Reuell Walters?

The reward for victory on Wednesday night is a place in the Carabao Cup quarter-final and therefore it’s crucial that Arteta gets this line-up right. Thankfully for him, football.london’s writers are on hand to help. Below is who they think should start for Arsenal against West Ham.

It’s hard to suggest that Mikel Arteta should ring the changes given how many he made at the weekend, but I would certainly rotate even more if I were him for the Carabao Cup. That starts in goal where Aaron Ramsdale simply has to play. If he plays anywhere near like he did against Brentford then Arsenal stand a good chance of going through.

With Gabriel not having played at the weekend, I think you can afford to bring him back into the heart of defence alongside Takehiro Tomiyasu to replicate the impressive duo from Brentford. Jakub Kiwior meanwhile was impressive at left back in that game, so I’d move him there after an impressive outing at centre back against Sheffield United.
