Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed the next steps for injured midfielder Thomas Partey as well as delivering an update on Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard.

The former was a surprise omission from the Gunners’ matchday squad against Sevilla in the Champions League last Tuesday with it being confirmed by the club that he suffered a setback in training the day before: “Thomas Partey misses out on tonight’s game with a muscle issue,” a statement read.

As reported by football.london, Partey is dealing with a thigh injury. Serious enough to keep him out of Saturday’s 5-0 thrashing of Sheffield United, the Ghana international will not be available for selection on Wednesday night as Arsenal face West Ham United in the Carabao Cup.

In fact, the 30-year-old may not feature for the north London before the November international break with Arteta predicting weeks on the sidelines. However, there’s a chance a return timeline will be clearer in a few hours as the midfielder is set for another appointment today (Tuesday).

“I think that he will be out for weeks, I don’t know how long but he’s got another appointment today and we will see more after that,” the Gunners boss said in the pre-match press conference. “Yes he is a big concern because when Thomas is fit and available and he’s been part of the team we have seen what the results and the impact that he has on the team.

“This season we have more protection, especially for that reason as well because we know in the past two seasons what has happened and the impact that it had on the team so we had to address that. And now it’s happened and it happened in football. I’m so sorry for him because I think he’s doing every single thing that he can do right to be there, he was gutted. We are all for him, he needs to lift himself up again with our support and go again because he is a player that is critical for us.”
