Iga Świątek, a perfectionist. Here’s what she did just before the Poland – Italy match

After an incredible battle with the Czechs, which ended with an unexpected doubles triumph of Iga Świątek and Katarzyna Kawa over Marie Bouzkova and Katerina Siniakova (6:2, 6:4), the Polish team advanced to the semi-finals. There, the Italians were waiting for them, and they also had to work hard to get to the semi-finals. After the first match, they unexpectedly lost 0:1 to Japan, because Elisabetta Cocciaretto sensationally lost to Ena Shibahara (6:3, 4:6, 4:6). Luckily for her, Jasmine Paolini, first in singles and then in doubles with Sara Errani, made up for the loss and gave the Italians advancement.

Linette charged into battle. But first…

Now it was time for the competition with Poland, embellished of course with the hit match between Paolini and Świątek. This time, the Italians decided to give up Cocciaretto’s singles services and Lucia Bronzetti entered the game. It was she who faced Magda Linette, who in turn replaced Magdalena Fręch (in relation to the competition with the Czechs). The favorite was the Pole, classified exactly 40 places higher in the WTA ranking (38 vs. 78). In addition, in their only previous match, at the United Cup 2023, Linette was also clearly better (6:1, 6:2).

… first a “scolding” from Świątek!

However, even before Magda stepped onto the court, we witnessed her rather funny situation with… Iga Świątek. During the pre-match presentation of the squads, each of the Polish players and captain Dawid Celt held small pennants in their hands. On one side was the Polish flag, and on the other the logo of the Polish Tennis Association.
