Liverpool return to Premier League action on Sunday with the visit of Chelsea to Anfield with question marks over the fitness of players in both squads

Liverpool return to Premier League action on Sunday when they entertain Chelsea in what look sets to be a mouthwatering match. And, fingers crossed, it appears the Reds have not picked up any fresh injuries during the international break.

After coming off in the 1-0 win at Crystal Palace, Alexis Mac Allister missed Argentina’s 1-1 draw against Venezuela last Thursday. But the midfielder was back in the starting line-up as the World Cup champions, inspired by the magical Lionel Messi, powered to a 6-0 home win over Bolivia in the early hours of this morning.

Curtis Jones, meanwhile, left the England squad after a late call-up by interim boss Lee Carsley. But it later became clear why – he has become a father for the first time. However, there is a slight question mark over another midfielder, Wataru Endo, who was absent from Japan’s clash with Australia on Tuesday having missed training the previous day through

If Endo recovers, that should leave Liverpool head coach Arne Slot with one player certainly out of the visit of Chelsea to Anfield, in goalkeeper Alisson Becker, and another not yet likely ready to play, in Harvey Elliott, while it remains to be seen what condition Federico Chiesa is in after he missed the two games before the international break.

For Chelsea, they definitely have four players ruled out. The big ones are Spain Euro 2024-winning left-back Marc Cucurella and France centre-back Wesley Fofana.

They are both suspended after picking up their fifth bookings of the season in the feisty 1-1 home draw with Nottingham Forest, which has saw both clubs charged by the FA for failing to control their players after a mass confrontation during the contest.

Also out is midfielder Omari Kellyman, who is still waiting to make his Chelsea debut after arriving from Aston Villa in the summer having picked up a hamstring injury last month.
