Ryan Gravenberch ‘taken out’ as Liverpool wait on midfielder fitness update

A number of Liverpool players were in international duty for their teams on Monday with some mixed fortunes

Ryan Gravenberch of Holland disappointed as his team lose their UEFA Nations League match in Germany

Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo were both replaced as the Liverpool duo suffered a disappointing end to their international break. With Virgil van Dijk absent through suspension, Gravenberch and Gakpo started in Holland’s 1-0 UEFA Nations League defeat in Germany on Monday night.

Gakpo, though, was substituted immediately after Germany’s Jamie Leweling netted the 64th-minute winner while Gravenberch was given the hook by Holland boss Ronald Koeman with 10 minutes remaining.

While neither impressed – Dutch news outlet Voetbal International rated the pair five out of 10 with Gravenberch said to have been “taken out” by the German pressure in midfield – only two other starters were given higher marks.

In the same UEFA Nations League group, Dominik Szoboszlai scored twice for Hungary in their 2-0 win in Bosnia, while elsewhere Ibrahima Konate continued his good form with a second successive start for France in their 2-1 triumph in Belgium.
