One player who is definitely sidelined is Alisson Becker, with the Brazilian out for at least six weeks after suffering a hamstring tear. Alisson was substituted towards the end of the 1-0 win at Crystal Palace last weekend.

His understudy Caoimhin Kelleher is fit again after missing out on the win over Palace through illness, with Vitezslav Jaros having temporarily stepped in.

Harvey Elliott is another is expected to miss the Chelsea match as he continues to work on his recovery from a broken foot sustained during the September internationals break. The 21-year-old has missed the past seven matches and has yet to return to full training, although he’s back in the gym working on his fitness.

Liverpool will hope to have him available during a run of fixtures includes games against Arsenal, Aston Villa and German champions Bayer Leverkusen.

Slot will also hope for positive news on Alexis Mac Allister, who was substituted at half-time of the win at Palace after a groin problem. The midfielder did travel to with the Argentina squad but was left on the bench for the 1-1 draw with Venezuela on Thursday. “I think we have to take care of him. He is a boy who comes with a lot of games and today the situation is like this.”

Federico Chiesa wasn’t part of Italy’s squad for the international break after he missed the wins over Palace and Bologna with a fitness issue of his own. Slot will be hopeful that the forward will be available for selection against Chelsea.
