Liverpool enter race for €8 million-rated Real Madrid full-back target – report

Earlier this week, reports emerged from Portugal claiming that Real Madrid were monitoring the development of former academy prospect Alvaro Carreras at SL Benfica.

The 21-year-old left-back departed from Real Madrid back in 2020, signing for Manchester United, before ending up in Portugal in January earlier this year.

Alvaro has grown in stature during his time with Benfica and his development has alerted not only Real Madrid but also Manchester United and Barcelona.

Liverpool also enter the race

Now, according to AS, another Premier League giant, Liverpool have entered the race for the signing of Alvaro Carreras from Benfica.

The Reds are reportedly on the lookout for a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson and Alvaro has caught their attention.

The 21-year-old Spaniard’s stellar performance in the UEFA Champions League game against Atletico Madrid, in particular, is understood to have made an impression on the Liverpool officials, who see him as a player capable of manning their left flank for years.

Alvaro has a contract with Benfica until the summer of 2029 and as per the report, there is a release clause embedded in it, the value of which is unknown.

It must, however, be remembered that Manchester United happen to have a buyback option for the Spanish youngster.

As far as Real Madrid are concerned, Alphonso Davies is their primary target to reinforce the left-back position next summer, given that the Bayern Munich ace will be available for free.

In case the Canadian international does not arrive, Alvaro could be an interesting alternative, although Los Blancos are also keeping tabs on another ex-academy man, Miguel Gutierrez.

If either Davies or Alvaro were to arrive next summer, it would likely lead to the departure of Fran Garcia.
