Liverpool will continue its quest for the quadruple on Sunday as Manchester United stands in the way of a return to Wembley in the FA Cup. Jürgen Klopp’s men can secure a place in the last four with victory, which will end United’s hopes of ending the season with a trophy.
Both sides have injury issues to deal with and Liverpool remained without 10 players for the midweek rout over Sparta Prague in the Europa League. There was some more promising news for Mohamed Salah though, after he completed his first 90 minutes in over two months.
It remains to be seen if the Egyptian will start again at Old Trafford or if Klopp will manage his minutes before the international break, which follows the quarter-final clash.

United did beat Liverpool at Old Trafford last season but the Reds won the fixture on the two previous occasions before that, scoring nine goals in the process. Another resounding victory on Sunday will set Klopp’s side up for what promises to be an incredible run-in
Here, Liverpool.com has rounded up the latest injury news and the potential return dates for all of the Reds stars who are currently missing, with a couple in contention to feature against United.
Ibrahima Konaté
Ibrahima Konaté looks set to miss out at Old Trafford after he was forced off in the first leg against Sparta Prague last week. That injury has forced him out of Liverpool’s last two matches, although Klopp did previously suggest he had a ‘good chance’ of recovering to play United.
The Reds boss provided an update on the Frenchman in Friday’s press conference though, revealing: “Ibou didn’t train today. We have to see if he can train tomorrow but it will be a tight, tight race which we probably lose, but we don’t know.”
Possible return date: After the international break.
Ryan Gravenberch and Bobby Clark
Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch is back in contention before schedule after he was forced off with an ankle injury in the Carabao Cup final. He suffered ligament damage from the tackle from Moisés Caicedo but has trained this week and could well make the bench at Old Trafford.
There were also concerns for Bobby Clark, when the young midfielder was forced off against Sparta Prague. Clark, who had earlier found the net, appeared in serious discomfort as he made his way off the pitch.
Klopp allayed fears over an injury lay-off though. “Bobby felt much better,” he said on Friday. “That was uncomfortable, he got a knock there, a little swelling, and that’s why he felt there might be a little something more serious, but there’s not, he’s fine.”
Possible return dates: Gravenberch vs Manchester United, although Clark may not be risked until after the international break.
Curtis Jones, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota
Liverpool’s injury situation is likely to improve considerably after the international break with Klopp confirming the trio are now not too far away. Jones should be the first one back after he limped off during the win over Brentford last month. He is expected to rejoin training during the international break.
Klopp also revealed on Friday that Alexander-Arnold and Jota are in line to return ‘the week after’ action resumes. Liverpool’s vice-captain aggravated a knee problem in the win over Burnley and hasn’t played since, while Jota was taken off on a stretcher at Brentford. There were fears he may not be back until the final weeks of the season but he is due back sooner.
Possible return dates: Jones vs Brighton on April 31, Alexander-Arnold and Jota vs Sheffield United on April 4.
Alisson Becker
Liverpool remains without its No.1 goalkeeper with a hamstring injury and he is still some way off returning to the fold. Alisson sustained the problem in training before the Brentford match with Klopp later confirming it was a ‘proper’ muscle injury. He said earlier this month that there was no timescale on Alisson’s return.
It means that Caoimhín Kelleher will continue to deputize for the Brazilian for the foreseeable, having enjoyed his longest run in the Liverpool team in recent weeks.
Possible return date: Early April.
Thiago Alcântara and Stefan Bajčetić
There is some good news around the corner for young midfielder Stefan Bajčetić after enduring a difficult season with injuries. Klopp issued a positive update on him on Friday and revealed he is not far away from joining full training.
Klopp said: “Stefan is pretty much now in his pre-season to make him physically ready,” said Klopp. “At the moment, if he feels something, it’s not injuries but intensity. He is a young lad so we have to make sure we don’t use him before he’s then really ready.
“What happened before is the body wasn’t 100 per cent ready for the intensity of professional football. He’s in a much better place now but it has taken a long time unfortunately, a real long time to improve that. But that’s where we have to wait a little bit, he is in his pre-season and I think he will be part of team training after the international break.”
Thiago meanwhile may have already played his last game for Liverpool. He suffered another injury at Arsenal, in his only appearance of the season, and his contract is due to expire at the end of the season.
Potential return dates: Bajčetić may return after the international break but Thiago is unknown.
Joël Matip and Ben Doak
Liverpool fans may have also seen the last of Joël Matip in a red shirt. The defender suffered an ACL injury against Fulham in December, which could prove to be his last game for Liverpool. Doak meanwhile had surgery on his knee, and may have to wait until pre-season to come back. He had been it with an outside chance of making the Scotland squad for the European Championships but that now appears even more unlikely.
Possible return dates: Both unlikely to return until after the end of the season.
