Harvey Elliott

Elliott came through the Fulham academy and became the youngest-ever Premier League player when he made his debut at 17 in 2019.

After he refused to sign a professional contract with the Cottagers, Liverpool then won the race for his signature and only had to pay an initial £1.5million following a tribunal.

The midfielder enjoyed a brilliant season on loan at Blackburn Rovers in 2020-21 and is now firmly established in Klopp’s first-team squad at Anfield.

Dominic Solanke

A former Chelsea Academy Player of the Year winner, Solanke joined Liverpool on a free transfer in 2017, although they later had to pay a £3million compensation fee.

Despite the striker scoring just one goal in 27 appearances for Liverpool, Edwards still managed to negotiate a £19million deal to sell him to Bournemouth in January 2019.

He netted just three goals in 42 Premier League appearances for the Cherries and couldn’t prevent their relegation to the Championship in 2020.

Solanke started to rediscover his best form in the second division, and has since established himself as a solid Premier League striker, but that doesn’t mean Edwards wasn’t correct to sell him.

Rhian Brewster

Liverpool had high hopes for Brewster but a £23.5million offer from Sheffield United proved too tempting for a player that had only featured on the periphery.

He is yet to justify that fee and ended up making 30 appearances without registering a goal or assist as the Blades finished bottom of the Premier League in 2020-21.

The 23-year-old still has time on his side and could turn things around, but it currently seems like Liverpool definitely got the better end of that deal.

What Michael Edwards plans to do first once Liverpool return is

Michael Edwards has now agreed a return to Liverpool as Fenway Sports Group (FSG) attempt to navigate life after Jurgen Klopp.

It was The Times who revealed that the 44-year-old will rejoin Liverpool, and also shared what the man from Southampton intends to do first at Anfield.

So, what will Michael Edwards do once his return to Liverpool is announced? Let’s take a look…

What Michael Edwards plans to do first at Liverpool

Well, the transfer guru – who helped bring Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk to Merseyside – is not actually returning to Anfield to be Director of Football again.

Edwards will instead head football operations across the entire board, in more of a footballing CEO role where he will work above a new Sporting Director, as Jorg Schmadtke is departing alongside Klopp.

Interestingly, there is already a name in mind

It is said that Edwards plans to hire Richard Hughes as Director of Football in his first act – once getting his feet back under the table at Liverpool.

Richard Hughes boasts strong CV

Liverpool fans will be pleased to know that Hughes boasts an impressive track record when it comes to recruitment.

The Glaswegian signed Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United for just £800,000 back in 2017 – before eventually making £18.5m from selling the England international back

Hughes also signed Nathan Ake for £20m before Manchester City later agreed a £41m deal for the Dutchman, while there was also huge profit made again after selling Tyrone Mings to Aston Villa in a £25m deal, having signed the defender from Ipswich Town for £8m.

There are certainly similarities between Hughes and Edwards in terms of wh

eeling and dealing in the market, while the pair are also believed to be good friends.
