Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is holding out for a massive two-year deal with his current contract due to expire at the end of the season.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England international goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes the pros far outweigh the cons of keeping the 32-year-old at Anfield for as long as he can continue to ‘be the difference’.

Salah has started the season under new manager Arne Slot in fantastic form, scoring four and providing four assists in their opening six Premier League games.

He’s also loving life on the European stage, ripping Italian side Bologna to shreds by providing the assist for Alexis Mac Allister’s opener and securing the win with a lovely 75th-minute curler.

Mohamed Salah still a key player for Liverpool

Questions marks were raised about whether Liverpool could rely on Salah as they had before after an underwhelming end to last season, and links to Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦

“You look at how fit he is, you look at the games that he plays and you look at his numbers year on year, you look at his goals, his assists, you look at the amount of games he plays

“At 32 now you look at what Ronaldo is still doing at his age, playing at maybe a different level but actually most of the way that he looks after himself, how fit he is and the contribution that he still gives you.

“I always say you weigh up what you would get from a player’s sale as opposed to what it would cost you to replace a player and also what it would cost you for not getting into the Champions League.

“He’s that important to Liverpool, he could be the difference between a title challenge or not getting in the Champions League next season.

“So the financial value that they would get from a sale with somebody towards the end of his contract would be nowhere near the value that it would be to sign him for another two years.

“He’s 32 so he’s not going to want a year extension, he’s going to want two years extension, then at 34, that move to the Saudi Pro League is still going to be there for him.”
