🚨🚨🚨Liverpool transfer news recap – Martin Zubimendi future, Trent Alexander-Arnold contract, Trey Nyoni plan
All the latest Liverpool news and transfer gossip on Martin Zubimendi, Ederson and Ademola Lookman and the latest news from around the Premier League
Liverpool have reportedly received no indication from Martin Zubimendi that he is willing to leave Real Sociedad in January.
The 25-year-old Spain international was on the brink of signing for Liverpool in the summer but eventually decided to reject interest from Anfield to stay with his boyhood club.
And following Sociedad’s poor start to the La Liga season, last week it was claimed that Zubimendi was willing to move to Anfield in the New Year. However, that is reportedly not the case and nothing has changed regarding the midfielder’s situation.
Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold has fired a warning to Liverpool as his contract at Anfield ticks down.
The Reds defender is into the final 12 months of his contract on Merseyside and will be free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs from January. Alexander-Arnold admitted that he wanted to be the captain of Liverpool but says it is ‘out of his hands’.
He is one of three high-profile contract issues for Liverpool as Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk also face uncertain periods. All three of their current terms expire in July.
Teenager Trey Nyoni could be one of several young stars to be handed minutes against West Ham on Wednesday night as Liverpool begin their defence of the Carabao Cup.
The 17-year-old, who moved to Anfield from Leicester City last summer, has enjoyed a rapid ascent through the club’s ranks and impressed during this summer’s tour of the United States.
As a result, he could be named on the bench at Anfield on Wednesday night, with Tyler Morton and Federico Chiesa potential receiving their first starts of the season.
Arne Slot told Liverpool have ‘struck gold’ with £34m signing after transfer snub
Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright believes Liverpool have “struck gold” with Ryan Gravenberch after missing out on a deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
Arne Slot had eyed Spain international Zubimendi as the first signing of a new era at Anfield as the Reds agreed a £51m deal with the La Liga outfit. But the Euro 2024 winner opted against a move to Liverpool to remain with his boyhood club in San Sebastian.
After missing out on Zubimendi though, Slot opted against pursuing a new midfield addition and instead decided to deploy Gravenberch – a £34m signing from Bayern Munich last summer – in the No.6 position. In the first six games of the season, the Dutchman has been the pick of the bunch for Liverpool in wins against Ipswich Town, Manchester United and AC Milan.
And footballer-turned-pundit Wright believes Liverpool’s failed pursuit of Zubimendi was a sliding doors moment that has served them well.
“You could say that with Zubimendi not going through, they could have really unearthed the one for themselves now,” said the former Arsenal forward on The Kelly and Wright Show.
“Because when you watch those games, and obviously, we want to see him against the maybe the top three, top four, and if he’s putting in those kind of performances, then obviously Liverpool have like struck gold because he seems to have everything, He has got all the attributes.”
Next up for Liverpool is the visit of West Ham United at Anfield on Wednesday, where they will begin their defence of the League
Arne Slot makes admission over Federico Chiesa full debut as major Liverpool injury update shared
Arne Slot has confirmed Caoimhin Kelleher will start for Liverpool in their Carabao Cup clash with West Ham United while Federico Chiesa could also be handed his full debut for the club.
Kelleher impressed between the sticks in the Reds’ 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday after Alisson Becker was ruled out with a hamstring injury. The Brazilian will also be absent against the Hammers on Wednesday night, with Slot confirming it is “tight” whether he will be fit to face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium this weekend.
Slot also suggested that summer signing Federico Chiesa could start on Wednesday night after making his Anfield debut off the bench at the weekend. The Italian joined the Reds in a £10m switch from Juventus but the Liverpool boss admitted it could be some time before he is able to play a full 90 minutes.
